Saab has been awarded a contract to upgrade the Swedish Air Force’s fleet of JAS-39 Gripens.

March 11: Swedish aerospace company Saab has been awarded a contract by the FMV (the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration) to upgrade the Swedish Air Force’s fleet of JAS-39 Gripens.

Worth SEK 2 billion (€205 million), the contract will see 153 Gripens receive new countermeasure and communication systems, integration of new weapons and an upgrade to the radar over the next four years.

Saab is hoping that the Swedish Air Force will order the next-generation Gripen NG as a top-up order to complete the fleet at around 200 aircraft.
