Kadena F-35A loses panel in flight

Photo: Arnold ten Pas

A US Air Force F-35A returned to Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, on November 30 with a forward-fuselage side panel missing.
The Lightning II, 14-5105 ‘HL’ is one of 12 from the 34th Fighter Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah that are on a six-month deployment to the Japanese air base.
Kadena AB is yet to comment on the incident, which apparently involved the loss of a panel that conceals a refuelling point and a communications bay.
