December 12: The Associate Press reports that the US Marine Corps has released details on where it intends basing the F-35B Lightning II when it enters operational service.
Up to 128 aircraft comprising eight squadrons will be based at Cherry Point in North Carolina and 88 (three squadrons and a training unit) will go to Beaufort in South Carolina. Around 96 jets (six squadrons) will be based at Miramar in California and 88 (five squadrons) will go to Yuma in Arizona. It was planned for the jets to begin arriving in 2012, though this may be delayed by up to two years in another realignment of the development programme.
