Lakota reaches 100

The 100th UH-72A Lakota has been delivered to the US Army.

March 4: EADS North America delivered its 100th UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopter to the US Army, marking a significant milestone in the potential 345 aircraft programme.

So far the US Army has ordered 182 Lakota, with the US Navy buying five of the H-72A version. The helicopters are produced at American Eurocopter’s production facility in Columbus, Mississippi, where production averages three to four helicopters per month. This 100th Lakota will be deployed to Germany with the US Army’s Joint Multinational Readiness Centre, becoming part of this unit’s Combat Training Centre. There they will be used to train pilots in combat engagements and will carry equipment such as a Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES), a SMart On-Board Data Interface Module (SMODIM), and an electronic data manager.
