India issues RfP for new trainer

The Indian Air Force wants to find a new basic trainer.

February 1: Indian newspaper the Hindu Times reports that the Ministry of Defence has issued a request for proposal (RfP) for a new training aircraft to replace the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) fleet of 125 HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) HPT-32 Deepaks, currently grounded after a fatal crash on July 31, 2009 at the Air Force Academy at Dundigal.

Up to 75 aircraft will be procured and manufacturers are required to submit their proposals by March 17. The successful bidder will have to deliver the first 12 aircraft within 24 months of the contract award.
