US Navy responds to Haiti crisis

 

The US Navy’s USS Carl Vinson has been sent to Haiti to help with international disaster relief operations.

January 14: The US Navy aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) has been sent to Haiti to help with international disaster relief operations after the earthquake that has devastated the small country. Currently in the Atlantic, the Carl Vinson will briefly return to its home port of Mayport in Florida to pick up equipment and supplies.

A Navy P-3 Orion aircraft is conducting aerial surveys of the area affected by the earthquake and various other units are preparing to provide assistance with sea-based helicopters, including H-53 Sea Stallions and H-60 Seahawks.
