Deliveries of the new Yak-130 ‘Mitten’ combat trainer to the Russian Air Force have begun.

August 13: RIA Novosti news agency reports that deliveries of the new Yak-130 ‘Mitten’ combat trainer to the Russian Air Force have begun. Ordered in 2002, the single-seat aircraft will be used as a trainer for fourth- and fifth-generation fighters. Irkutsk-based manufacturer Sokol will deliver 12 Yak-130s by the end of 2010 to the Krasnodar Military Flight School as part of an initial order for 62 aircraft.

The Russian Air Force is believed to be planning to acquire about 200 Yak-130s to equip four air regiments.
