At this year’s RAFA Shoreham Airshow on August 23, ‘Boss Bear’ will make his return after two years travelling the world in aid of charity.
What a life it has been – flying over 2,000 hours in all different types of aircraft in countries all over the world. He has met Royalty, celebrities and Ambassadors, visited the Houses of Parliament and stood outside the door of 10 Downing Street.
‘Boss Bear’ is a gift from the House of Lords – his minder, Bob Franklin (who supports the RAFA Airshow Press Team at Shoreham), has been responsible for arranging his hectic itinerary.
His pilot’s logbook, kindly donated by ‘Transair Ltd’, has every detail of all his flights and his feelings of each particular sortie. The pilots and squadrons he has flown with have signed each page and in most cases provided their squadron badge. ‘Boss Bear’ has flow with the Red Arrows; been to the USA and flown with ‘Top Gun’ pilots; taken to the air with the Indian Air Force helicopter display team and the French Patrouille de France; seen action in Iraq and Afghanistan; completed four flypasts over London; flown in the Eurofighter, Tornado, Jaguar, Nimrod and just about every RAF aircraft currently in service; flown with the Blades aerobatic team and wing-walked with Team Guinot.
To commence his travels HRH Princess Alexandra signed the front page of his log book – a major celebrity will sign it off on August 24. All monies raised will help raise funds for ‘RAFA Wings Appeal’ and ‘Help the Heroes.’
For your chance to win ‘Boss Bear’ and his logbook, text the word ‘LOOP’ and your answer to the following question to 88010:
How many aircraft do the Red Arrows fly in their team?
Text messages cost £1 plus your standard network charge.
All money raised will be divided between the two charities ‘Royal Air Forces Association’ and ‘Help for Heroes’. Correct entries will be entered into a prize draw with the winner chosen after the lines close at midnight on August 23.
The winner will be notified on their mobile phone within seven days of the draw and will have 72 hours to accept the prize.
The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence or discussion concerning the result will be entered into.
